Since the 1970s, the Mediterranean monk seal is no longer present in the Gulf of Orosei, and the last confirmed sightings date back to the early 1980s.
A growing environmental awareness in the region could lead to a future reintroduction of the monk seal in the waters of the Gulf of Orosei.
